Randolph Engineering aviators are the only metal sunglasses still made in the US and the only sunglasses I can tell that still exist at the highest level of quality. RE sunglasses are on the same tier as Rolex and Omega watches and Allen Edmonds shoes, but fortunately and amazingly at a price most people can afford. They are also among an increasingly small number of sunglasses that use glass lenses, which are always clearer than even the best plastic. The only potential downside is that they have a limited number of styles, and most people will either want the original Aviators or a similar style that fits a slightly different face shape.

The model I am reviewing specifically here is the gunmetal frame with the green polarized lenses. The gunmetal is far less dark/grey/black then it appears in the pictures; it is much closer to the shiny chrome but is just a bit darker. If you want dark frames get the matte black. The green lenses are great, they are less green than something like Ray Ban G15 and closer to grey (I have grey and green both from RE and they are not as drastically different as one might think). The polarization on RE lenses is the best I’ve experienced, you can look right through water to the bottom, it is really impressive.
